Family Prayer – Sacred Heart of Jesus

By Paul Sammut Director of Catholic Identity and Mission

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,
I ask you to bless this house and all of us who live in it.

Help us to live in peace and happiness.

May your love enable us to strengthen and support each other,
in every need, so that together we grow in your love
and our love for each other.

Amen

Principal's Report

By Jamie Madigan Principal

Recently, the Church celebrated Pentecost, one of the most significant moments in our Christian faith, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles, empowering them with courage, wisdom and conviction to proclaim the Good News to the world. As we reflect on this sacred event, we are reminded of the words from Acts 1:8:

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses."

This call to be witnesses of Christ remains alive and active within our College community today.

Last Sunday, we celebrated the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity, a central mystery of our Catholic faith. This feast invites us to contemplate the unity of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three persons united in one divine nature. The Trinity reveals the perfect love, relationship and communion that exists within God and calls each of us to deepen our relationship with Him and with one another.

One powerful expression of this love within our community is our flourishing partnership with our sister school, St Francis Kizinga in Uganda. Through the remarkable generosity of our families and staff, we have now assisted in the construction of six classrooms and continue to support the school's breakfast feeding program, ensuring students begin each day nourished and ready to learn. More recently, we have contributed towards the purchase of desks and chairs for two newly completed classroom blocks. In addition, work is currently underway on the construction of a new administration building. This partnership continues to exemplify faith in action and reflects our College motto, Live Fully, Act Justly.

It has been another busy and rewarding term across the College, with students engaging in a broad range of academic, wellbeing, faith and co-curricular opportunities. Highlights have included:

• Year 7 Premier League and SACCSS sporting events
• The Ignite Program for Years 8 and 9
• Year 10 Faith Formation Day
• A range of incursions, excursions and guest speakers
• Social justice and fundraising initiatives
• Rehearsals for the College Musical
• Project 9 learning experiences
• Year 9 and 10 subject selection processes

In addition to these experiences, many students have continued to engage enthusiastically in the wide range of clubs, groups and leadership opportunities available across the College. Likewise, preparations for our 2026 College Musical, The Little Mermaid, are well underway, with students and staff dedicating countless hours to rehearsals. The Musical continues to be a wonderful celebration of creativity, teamwork and the diverse talents that make our College community so special.

The message of Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit empowers ordinary people to do extraordinary things. As a College community, we are called not simply to learn and achieve, but to use our gifts in service of others and to be a force for good in the world. Whether it is through our learning, faith formation, sporting pursuits, social justice initiatives, participation in clubs and groups, or the dedication and creativity being displayed in rehearsals for The Little Mermaid, students are continually finding opportunities to develop their talents and contribute positively to our community.

Guided by faith, strengthened by our relationships and inspired by the example of Christ, may we continue to embrace every opportunity to grow, serve and lead. In doing so, we bring our College motto to life each day, striving to Live Fully, Act Justly in all that we do.

June – Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

By Paul Sammut Director of Catholic Identity and Mission

The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, making it a wonderful time to deepen our relationship with Christ through this rich and enduring devotion. Rooted in Scripture, devotion to the Sacred Heart reflects upon the heart of Christ that was pierced on the Cross, from whose side flowed blood and water. It reminds us of Jesus’ invitation to draw close to Him and experience the depth of His love.

For our community, the high school years can often feel marked by constant pressure, particularly as we approach the semester examination period. Added to this is the continual noise and busyness that can fill our daily lives. The Sacred Heart offers something different: rest in Christ’s gentleness, compassion, and love. Jesus Himself invites us, “Learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart” (Mt 11:29).

This message is especially important because devotion to the Sacred Heart developed, in part, as a response to views of God that emphasised severity over mercy. Through this devotion, the Church reminds us of God’s boundless love and calls us to place our trust in His infinite mercy.

As we journey through this month, may we remember that God’s love remains constant and faithful, even when our circumstances change, family life is challenging, or we face uncertainty about the future.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place our trust in You.

MACS Care Website - Child Safe Standard 5

By Katie Murray-Fawcett Deputy Principal Student Wellbeing

This year, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) has launched a new child-safe campaign and website called MACS Care. The purpose of this is to assist schools in continuing to build a child safety culture and maintain compliance with the Victorian Child Safe Standards.

The MACS care website includes a number of resources and templates to guide schools throughout the year as they focus on all 11 standards each month.

This month, we will be focusing on Child Safe Standard 5: Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.

As Catholic educators we have an obligation to support the dignity of those that are in our care. We are committed to protecting children and our young people, aligning our work to the Gospel's message and related principles of justice, respect and inclusion. We ensure the diverse needs of our students are respected and treated with dignity and compassion. Our Catholic school communities strive to create inclusive environments where the dignity of each young human being is cared for and their needs are met and respected.

I encourage you to read the Newsletter Child Safe Standard 5 which will give you a better understanding of what our College do to ensure our students are safe and the processes involved in making Catholic Regional College Caroline Springs a child safe school.

Semester 1 Examinations

By Lauren Febbraio Pathways Program Coordinator

Semester 1 Examinations are scheduled from Thursday 18 to Wednesday 24 June. With these fast approaching, students are encouraged to view exams as an opportunity to demonstrate their learning, reflect on their progress, and consolidate their understanding of key knowledge and skills developed throughout the semester. Exams also help students build important habits such as organisation, time management, resilience, and preparation skills that will support them in future studies. We encourage all students to prepare consistently, seek support when needed, and approach the examination period with confidence and a positive mindset.

Students are expected to wear full College uniform and must bring their ID card to all examinations. Stationery can be carried in a clear pencil case or zip-lock bag, and water bottles must be clear with no labels on the outside. Students must bring their own writing materials (and any other permitted materials) to each exam.

If students are absent for a particular examination, a medical certificate is to be sent to the Executive Assistant to the Principal, Paula D’Amore (pdamore@crccs.vic.edu), and a SEQTA DM should be sent to Miss Lauren Febbraio for a resit opportunity to be considered. All resits must occur this term as these examinations will appear on the Semester 1 Report.

Project 9 Excursions

By Lauren Febbraio Pathways Program Coordinator

As part of our Project 9 program, Year 9 students recently participated in two meaningful excursions connected to learning about the ANZACs and the values of courage, resilience and sacrifice.

Students visited the Shrine of Remembrance, where they explored exhibits and engaged with stories of servicemen and women. This experience provided students with a deeper understanding of the significance of the ANZAC legacy and the impact of war on individuals, families and communities. It was a valuable opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with important moments in Australia’s history.

Students also challenged themselves physically by completing the 1000 Steps Kokoda Memorial Walk. This experience encouraged students to reflect on the endurance, determination and resilience demonstrated by Australian soldiers, particularly those who served during World War II. While physically demanding, the walk provided an opportunity for students to consider the sacrifices made by those who served our country. Students also participated in an ANZAC Ceremony led by a member of Parks Victoria.

These excursions encouraged students to deepen their understanding of the ANZAC spirit through both historical learning and personal reflection. We commend our Project 9 students for the respectful and enthusiastic way they represented the College during both experiences.

Science in Action

By Hayley Iannazzo Learning Area Leader – Science and STEM

There has been plenty of hands-on learning happening in Science this term, with students exploring a range of exciting concepts through practical investigations.

Year 7 students have been learning about density and tested a variety of items to see whether they would sink or float in water. Year 8 students have been exploring energy through the bouncing ball practical, measuring how high a ball bounces and investigating where energy is transferred or lost. Year 9 students have been learning about chemistry and investigated endothermic and exothermic reactions, observing temperature changes during chemical reactions. In Year 10 Physics, students put their problem-solving and data collection skills to the test through the 'speedy dominoes' practical.

These activities have given students the opportunity to make predictions, test ideas, collect data and think like scientists — all while having plenty of fun along the way!

Year 10 Faith Formation Day with Fr Rob Galea

By Sr Lawrence Nicholas College Chaplain

Our annual Year 10 Faith Formation Day is always a highlight of the school year, and it proved to be especially memorable this year with Fr Rob Galea facilitating the program for our students. Fr Rob is well known for his dynamic presentations and exceptional musical gifts, which he seamlessly weaves throughout the day.

There were moments when the students were up on their feet singing and dancing, other moments quietly in prayer and connecting to God in their own personal way, and moments to listen and learn about our ‘mission possible’ and the ‘extravagant God’. In these two key talks Fr Galea spoke deeply about our unique purpose and the reality that, in His greatness, God continually seeks us out and loves us unconditionally.

Beyond the formal presentations, we are also grateful for Fr Rob’s generosity in spending time with students throughout the day. He made himself readily available to listen, encourage, and engage with the young people. Whether it was gym tips, faith and discipline advice, a song request, or even a spontaneous mini concert, our students were privileged to spend meaningful time with a person full of Christ’s love, zeal and spirit.

Two of our Year 10 students have shared their experience:

The faith formation day with Father Rob was very eye opening, particularly to our significance in the world and more importantly, our significance in God's eyes; helping me gain a deeper appreciation of how special it is that Jesus can have such a personal and intimate relationship with us. Additionally, the connection between the activities we did and the lessons we learned from them felt very intentional and insightful, attaching new meaning and understanding to different parts of my faith. It was overall a very entertaining and engaging day that I won't soon forget.”

  • Best N, 10 Bunjil

Year 10 Faith Day with Father Rob Galea was a really meaningful and enjoyable experience. It gave us the opportunity to reflect on our faith, connect more deeply with God, and think about the importance of spirituality in our lives. The day was also fun and engaging because we got to participate in challenges and activities, which helped strengthen our teamwork and faith. Overall, it was a memorable day filled with faith and connection. It was also special because many of us had the opportunity to meet Father Rob Galea back in Year 8, and now in Year 10 we were able to continue that journey and reflect on how much we have grown both personally and spiritually. His messages were inspiring and relatable, encouraging us to stay positive, trust in God, and support one another through life’s challenges.”

Term 2 Service Learning – Food for the Homeless

By Annette Giang Service Learning Coordinator

This term, Year 8 students had the opportunity to put their faith into action by volunteering to support people experiencing homelessness and hardship.

On Thursday 21 May, 10 dedicated students stayed back after school to prepare approximately 300–400 ham and cheese sandwiches for the St Vincent de Paul Society's Soup Van program.

The sandwiches were delivered to the Inner City Soup Van Hub in Kensington. This central kitchen relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers and helps provide more than 400,000 meals each year to people in need across Melbourne’s inner city.

We thank the students for their generosity and displaying our College Pillar of Compassion and willingness to serve others in our community.

Any Year 8 students interested in participating in future volunteering opportunities are encouraged to contact Ms Giang.

Year 8 Key Chain Designs

By Debbie Cooper Materials Technology Teacher

During term one 8KU and 8WU completed investigations into fabrics and sewing. This unit of work saw them learning how to hand sew fabric with different embroidery stitches and sew to on buttons.

Once completed, students investigated different fabric key chain ideas to create their own design. The results were varied and creative as the students used different fabrics, buttons, beads and embroidery stitches to decorate and construct their own key chain. The results are impressive!

First Schoolwide Online Rosary Night

By Sr Lawrence Nicholas College Chaplain

On 13 May, the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, our school community came together for a special Online Rosary Night. While some students had gathered online to pray during the COVID lockdowns, this was the first time the initiative was extended to include families and staff.

Led by our Catholic Identity and Mission Team, the Rosary brought together school leaders, staff, parents, students, and siblings, all participating from their own homes. It was a beautiful opportunity to be united in prayer, particularly as we prayed for peace in our world.

Prayer is an essential part of the Christian life. As Catholics, our faith is not only lived personally and interiorly but is also strengthened through communal prayer and worship. The Rosary remains one of the Church’s most cherished traditions, a prayer whose spiritual richness continues to inspire and sustain generations of believers.

13 May also holds special significance in the life of the Church, marking the anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady to the three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. Over the following six months, Our Lady continued to appear to the children on the thirteenth day of each month, calling them to prayer, penance, and conversion, and encouraging the daily recitation of the Rosary. These apparitions culminated on 13 October 1917, with the Miracle of the Sun, witnessed by tens of thousands of people.

Although these events took place more than a century ago, their message remains as relevant and powerful today as ever. Our Lady's call to prayer, peace, and trust in God continues to inspire the faithful throughout the world and invites each of us to deepen our relationship with Christ through the Rosary.

We are grateful to all who joined us for this special evening of prayer and solidarity.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.

Important Information Regarding Student Media Management

By Rose Cassar Marketing Manager

At Catholic Regional College Caroline Springs, we are committed to protecting the privacy, safety and wellbeing of our students and staff, including the responsible use of photos and digital media.

To support this, the College has implemented Pixevety, a secure platform used to organise, store and manage school photos. Pixevety helps us ensure that student media consent preferences are applied accurately and consistently across College publications and communications.

Pixevety is an Australian-owned platform trusted by more than 380 schools across Australia and internationally. As part of its media management system, Pixevety uses secure facial recognition technology to help identify and organise photos within the College’s image library. This technology is used only for managing school photos and applying consent settings. No facial images are stored, and the data cannot be recreated or used outside the platform.

The introduction of Pixevety will help the College to:

  • Securely store and manage school photos
  • Ensure student media permissions are consistently followed
  • Reduce the risk of unauthorised use of student images
  • Strengthen privacy and child safeguarding practices
  • Improve the efficiency of managing and accessing College media

The College remains committed to meeting all privacy and data protection obligations, including requirements relating to consent, data security, and access to information.

Further information about how Pixevety collects, stores and manages data is available in the Pixevety Privacy Policy.

We encourage families to review the College Privacy Policy and contact the College if you have any questions regarding student media consent or privacy practices.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data

By Learning Diversity

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (the national data collection) is an annual collection that counts the number of school students with disability and the level of reasonable educational adjustment with which they are provided. The national data collection will count students who have been identified as receiving an adjustment to address a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (the DDA).

College funding in support of learners is determined by this collection and submission of data. Further information, in both English and Arabic, are linked for parents/carers.
