What a win! In front of a crowd of very loud and enthusiastic supporting parents at the Caroline Springs Leisure Centre, our Year 7 girls Volleyball team fought their way from a set down to come back from behind and take out the 2026 SACCSS Div 2 Premiership against a very strong and determined CRC St Albans team.
Our team had made it to the finals series in third place after the home and away games and began our finals campaign with an impressive win over Emmanuel College in the semi-final two sets to one. The grand final was always going to be a tough battle against CRC St Albans, the top team in the competition. The first set could have gone either way, but St Albans took it out 25-22 in a nerve-wracking game.
After an analysis of the first game and focusing on our strengths, the game plan changed and our girls caught the opposition by surprise winning 25-13. Another convincing start to the final game saw us in front on the scoreboard before St Albans got into some dynamic serving efforts, almost catching our lead. However, the composure of our girls to keep it together, with consistent serving and some amazing teamwork to save almost impossible returns. regained enough of a margin to get over the line winning the final set 25-22 and winning the pennant.
Coach Manning was clearly excited for the girls who had worked so hard throughout the competition, improving their skills to meet the demands of the final’s games. The enthusiasm and cohesion within the group was a huge factor in how well the girls were able to improve so much.
After the match, all our players were awarded premiership medals and were proud to bring the premiership pennant back to present to Mr Madigan.
