By Mr Rannoch Wilkinson Sport Co-ordinator

On Thursday 6 May our intermediate Girls AFL team travelled to Royal Park to participate in the SACCSS Girls AFL tournament. After horrible weather earlier in the week, the girls were pleased to be greeted with warm sunshine and perfect conditions for playing football.

Mr Ray and Ms Consiglio had carefully selected the playing squad and run a number of training sessions at school and were ready to show what they had. The girls had a great win first up against Emmanuel and a narrow 1-point win against St Monica’s. Salesian then gave our girls a touch up with a 26 – 0 thrashing. Our girls were determined to make amends in the next match against another strong opponent in Mackillop. They outplayed Mackillop for the entire match, but inaccurate kicking meant the match ended in a draw. CRCCS then comfortably won the final match against CRC Melton, chasing a percentage boost in order to make the final. Despite a 3-goal win, it wasn’t quite enough for our girls to jump Mackillop on percentage and we missed the final for this year.

Congratulations to all of the girls for your strong efforts across the day and to Mr Ray and Ms Consiglio for coaching the team.
