On Wednesday 11 June, our Year 10 Theatre Studies students swapped the classroom for the cultural heart of Melbourne in an immersive excursion designed to deepen their understanding of stagecraft and performance.

After arriving at Flinders Street Station, the group made their way to Arts Centre Melbourne, where they participated in a Front of House Tour. This behind-the-scenes experience gave students valuable insights into audience services, theatre architecture, and the intricate coordination required to run live productions.

After enjoying lunch at Southgate, energised and inspired, the group then walked to the Regent Theatre, where the real show began, a matinee performance of Beetlejuice. This dynamic musical captivated students with its dark humour, inventive staging, and high-energy performances. With a mix of horror, hilarity, and heart, Beetlejuice offered students a brilliant example of contemporary musical theatre, and many will use it as inspiration in their own performance work.

This experience not only enriched their appreciation for live theatre but also highlighted the many careers and creative processes that support professional stage productions. We’re incredibly proud of our students for the curiosity and enthusiasm they brought to the day and we can’t wait to see how this experience informs their future work in the Theatre Studies classroom.
